Our core activity is ensuring that our Sightholder clients receive the volume and type of rough diamonds they apply for, and that our non-Sightholder clients achieve Sightholder status. (See becoming a Sightholder)

Competition for scarce supplies means that not all Sightholders’ requests can be satisfied.  DTC (under their SoC policy) set out a number of criteria to determine the volumes and types of rough each client will receive.  Our primary role is to guide our clients in understanding, assessing and fulfilling those criteria.

The three criteria that the DTC use to determine what goods it will offer to clients are:

·         Assessment of Company profiles

·         Availability of Rough

·         Clients' Application

Hennig uses its unique position in the diamond pipeline; our scale; the diverse skills of our personnel and our proprietary IT programme to help clients prepare the profiles for assessment; analyse the availability of specific types of rough and guide clients through the application process.

Submission of a Company Profile is an obligation for each Sightholder    In addition to being used at the start of each new contract period, the interim profiles are used to monitor any change in the relative satisfaction of each Sightholders to the SoC criteria.  This will in turn either improve or reduce the chances a client will receive the rough they require.  The importance of this document to the DTC clients cannot be understated.  At Hennig we place our substantial resources on offer to our clients to help them prepare their submissions.

By analysing what goods were offered to our clients over a selling period (typically six months) in conjunction with our market knowledge, we are able to identify fluctuations in the DTC inventory and advise our clients where a particular type of rough may be more readily available, or where there is evidence of a scarcity.  Clients can use this knowledge to then decide on what type of rough to focus their applications.

Our rough dealing department, Diamond Realisations Ltd. is active in helping our Sightholder and  non Sightholder clients source rough.

Where the DTC is not able to supply our clients’ requirements, we are instrumental in helping our clients find alternative sources.  This could be either from second hand DTC boxes, the secondary market, or helping clients present their cases to other rough suppliers.
